LUBRICANTS: PLEASURE, CARE, AND SAFETY

Lubricant is a useful tool for making sex more comfortable, pleasurable, and safer.
It can be used in all sexual activities, especially when genital contact is involved.

Using lubricant is a choice related to comfort and bodily needs.
It is not an indicator of desire, arousal, or “ability”. Bodies can have different needs at different times.

Lubricants:

  • increase comfort and pleasure

  • protect delicate mucous membranes

  • reduce friction and pain

  • help prevent micro-tears and sexually transmitted infections

They can be used in many practices, including caressing, massage, oral sex, finger stimulation, masturbation, solo sex, and penetrative sex, with or without toys.

When they are especially useful

  • in cases of genital dryness

  • during longer-lasting sexual activities

  • with manual penetration or toys

  • in anal sex, where lubricant is essential

If pain occurs during sex, it is important to pause, listen to the body and adjust practices.
Pain should not be present unless it is a desired and agreed-upon part of the experience.

Types of lubricants

  • Water-based: versatile, easy to wash off, compatible with condoms and most toys

  • Silicone-based: longer-lasting, water-resistant, not compatible with all silicone toys

  • Oil-based: very lubricating, never with latex condoms

  • Hybrid: water + silicone, sometimes with flavors or stimulating ingredients

⚠️ Some ingredients, such as glycerin, may promote yeast infections in people who are prone to them.

Important notes

  • always read product instructions

  • clean the body and toys after use

  • apply lubricant on top of the condom, never inside
